The concept of the Microboard limits the services to serving 1 individual from a vulnerable population. The only 2 exceptions are for 2 siblings or 2 spouses.
The Burdeaux Microboard is an incorporated non-profit created to provide 2 types of support to Arabella and Darin Burdeaux, who both have Down syndrome and associated developmental disabilities.
- Natural Support:
Through the formation of a volunteer Board of Directors, the Burdeaux Microboard will- evaluate the goals on Arabella and Darin’s PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope),
- determine possible steps to reach this goal,
- enlist community volunteers to help Arabella and Darin complete these steps,
- follow up on the progress, and
- plan alternative steps with alternative volunteers as needed.
- Also, updating PATH with Arabella and Darin as needed, and
- creating separate PATHs for Arabella and Darin when their needs are not the same.
- Provider Support:
Through contracting with DADS (Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services) for Arabella’s Medicaid waiver services under CLASS, and for Darin’s Medicaid waiver services under MDCP, the Burdeaux Microboard will- provide the services currently received under the waiver budget, while
- being able to focus more personally on Arabella and Darin,
- keep overhead to a minimum (staffing, personnel management, facilities), and
- accumulate funds normally spent on agency operation and use these for support of PATH goal acheivement.

The activities of the Burdeaux Microboard are pretty simple:
- Hold focus-person centered Board meetings at least Quarterly to evaluate progress and support to reaching Arabella and Darin’s PATH goals.
- Pursue HCSSA license needed for contracting with DADS for CLASS & MDCP services.
- Once HCSSA license is awarded, pursue CLASS & MDCP contracts for services.
- Staff and deliver services budgeted under CLASS & MDCP programs for Arabella and Darin.
- Bill DADS for reimbursement of services provided from CLASS & MDCP budgets.
- Use accumulated funds to support PATH goals.
The only 2 people who will be served by this Microboard are Arabella & Darin Burdeaux, according the Certificate of Formation and Bylaws.
